Bio

Dr. Bui is a Senior Member in the Department of Pathology at Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. She serves as the Scientific Director of the Analytic Microscopy Core of the cancer center and Section Head of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology of the pathology department. She is also a Professor and the Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship at the University of South Florida (USF) Morsani College of Medicine. Providing the best possible patient care is the number one mission for Dr. Bui. Her expertise includes bone and soft tissue pathology, cytopathology, biomarker testing, digital pathology, and AI. She is a patient-centered pathologist who combines research, education, advocacy, and service for better patient care, and received the 2019 College of American Pathologists (CAP) Distinguished Patient Care Award. Dr. Bui is the study Pathologist for multiple research grants. She has published over 215 peer-reviewed articles, 30 book chapters and 3 books, including The Atlas of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, The Healing Art of Pathology, and the Modern Techniques in Cytopathology. She is an inventor and has received 3 patents in Digital Pathology and cancer diagnostics. Dr. Bui is an award-winning educator and mentor. She has frequently (>215) lectured both nationally and internationally, including keynote presentations. She is on multiple committees organizing national and international pathology and digital pathology meetings. Dr. Bui values the service to professional societies and views it as an important mechanism to influence policies and standards to help improve the quality of patient care in a broader sense. She served as a panel member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Soft Tissue Sarcoma Clinical Practice Guidelines for 14 years until recently. She is the editorial board member of multiple journals including the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.  Her leadership experience includes but is not limited to being the President of the Digital Pathology Association (2019), the President of the Medical Staff of Moffitt Cancer Center (2018-2020), President of the Chinese American Pathologists Association (2021-2022), President-elect of the Florida Society of Pathologists (2021-2023), the Chair of the Publications Committee and the Editorial Board of CAP Today (2018-2021), Chair of the expert panel of HER2 quantitative image analysis of breast cancer guidelines of CAP (2016-2019), and the current Chair of the Digital and Computational Pathology committee, Vice Speaker of House of Delegates, and ex- officio member of the Board of Governors of the CAP. Dr. Bui is passionate about advocating the critical role of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in precision medicine. She has been interviewed and featured in journals/magazines, podcasts, and a documentary film (HER2know.com).

Dr. Bui was born and raised in Beijing, China. After graduating from medical school there, she came to the University of Florida (UF) to obtain a PhD degree in Immunology and Molecular Pathology. She completed her residency at UF in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Cytopathology fellowship. After graduation, she has been working at the Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute for 18 years since 2005. She has been living in Florida for more than 30 years and considers herself as a Floridian. Dr. Bui enjoys living in Tampa, FL with her husband and daughter, who is a Psychiatry resident (PGY2).
