Bio

 Dr. Knight is currently Senior Advisor for PathGroup Laboratories in Nashville,TN, having previously served that organization as Medical Director, Cytopathology and Womens Health. Board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as cytopathology, Dr. Knight received her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and performed her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Knight subsequently completed a Fellowship in Surgical Pathology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. She practiced for several years in North Dallas as a general hospital based pathologist with a large pathology group and directed their cytopathology program. In that capacity, she had the opportunity to open an accredited school for cytotechnology. She later practiced for many years in Dalton, Georgia, prior to merging her practice with PathGroup. In Dalton, Dr. Knight served as Laboratory Medical Director at Hamilton Medical Center and Murray Medical Center and was President of Associates in Laboratory Medicine, PC.

Over the course of her career Dr. Knight has been actively involved with the College of American Pathologists. In October of 2022 she completed two consecutive terms as Speaker of the House of Delegates and eight years as an ex officio member of the Board of Governors. Dr. Knight became a member of the House in 2008 and had previously completed two terms as Vice Speaker as well as three years as Member-at-Large on the HOD Steering Committee. During her time on the Board of Governors, she also was a member of the Compensation Committee, the Finance Committee, the Council on Accreditation, the Annual Meeting Strategy and Execution Committee, the Member Advisory Group for the Pathologists Leadership Summitt, the BOG Diversity Project Team, and a Liaison to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. In addition she was honored to serve as a Liaison to the CAP Foundation and on the CAP Meritorious Service Awards Nomination Review Panel. In prior years she was additionally a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Laboratory Quality and Improvement for the 21st Century.

Dr. Knight has had a deep commitment to CAP advocacy. She attended the CAP Advocacy School in 2003 and has been an active participant and attendee at the subsequent Policy Conference and Pathologists Leadership Summit in all subsequent years. During this time, she provided laboratory tours for seven Congressional members from Georgia and Tennessee. She became a member of the Federal and State Affairs Committee in 2006 and subsequently served that committee as Vice Chair for 3 years, Chair for 4 years, and Advisor for 4 years.. Dr. Knight has been a member of the Tennessee Society of Pathologists and had the opportunity to serve as CAP State Issue Advisor for Tennessee from 2016-2022. She was previously a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Pathologists for seven years, including two years as President.

Currently Dr. Knight is a member of the Council on Government and Professional Affairs, serving since 2008, and has previously been a member of its Executive Committee. Dr. Knight has been a member the Council on Membership and Professional Development since 2021, the PathPAC Board of Directors since 2019, and is now completing her first year as Chair of the State Pathology Society Member Workgroup, having been a participant since its inception in 2018. She is additionally delighted to be a newly elected member of the Board of Directors of the CAP Foundation.

Having recently relocated to Fairhope, Alabama, Kathy is enthusiastically adapting to life in this beautiful community along Mobile Bay and the Gulf Coast, where she is committed to involvement in community activities, having most recently been elected to the Board of Directors of Impact100 Baldwin County. Her most treasured role continues to be that of proud mom, with her son, Eric Miller, currently working as an on-air reporter at WRAL News/NBC in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.
